For you Do It Yourselfers (DIY) who can do just about anything but don't want to dig footings, my two teenage sons can help dig your deck footings or porch footers during the summer and into the fall.Shane is 19 and has experience working for D&D Construction Services digging their deck footings and porch footers. Ryan is 17 and is a hard worker and will help his older brother (which is a blessing if you know what I mean). They provide work gloves and a tape measure, you provide the tools. Normally they will only need two shovels. If the digging is hard, you will need to provide them with a 6' digging bar. If the holes go deep, you will also need to provide them with a post hole digger so they can remove the dirt from the holes. You can always rent what tools you do not have or cannot borrow. You will also need to mark on the ground exactly where you want the footings and give the boys instructions as to how large you want each footing. They know to dig them typically 2' deep or until they reach solid, undisturbed soil. Should the footings need to exceed 6' in depth, you will need to call a soil engineer who will test each footing for loading capability and calculate how large each footing must be to hold the weight for that footing. He will provide his sealed calculations so that, when the boys dig the footings to the soil engineer's prescribed footing dimensions, your local Inspector will accept the results. Please also insure that you have had Miss Utility mark all underground lines. They charge $25/manhour plus $1/mile travel expenses. They'll bring their own lunch and drinks... but they don't mind being offered snacks (they take after their mother). Call Mike at 540 786-3534 m/w/f 10-4pm to make arrangements. |
